These images and videos are from an unreleased project that I had the pleasure of being a Principle Technical Artist for. They represent a tool for generating UI icon textures. The UI team had a single artist and hundreds of icons to generate for all of the various weapons, gadgets and other misc items in the game.

Initially the art direction was to create hand drawn images and this tool was a stop gap for design as they hooked up new content. Eventually the direction pivoted and we ended up using this for the final product. The tool uses render target captures combined with custom material passes to output a final 256px color image with packed opacity/distancefield masking inside of the alpha channel. It can capture from both static and skeletal meshes as well as do batched processing based on content browser selections or folder directories.
